Established since 1994, We are a friendly school where everyone is welcome. We offer a wide range of classes for all age groups in a variety of all Theatre Dance subjects.

‘Our aim is to give children the chance to explore music and interpret their own feelings and dance style in a fun way to develop confidence.


All our classes are taken by qualified teachers to examination level, student teacher classes are also available. The classes are all held at the Silkstone Scout & Guide HQ, Silkstone, and we have students throughout the whole Barnsley area.

Miss Maria:

Miss Maria started dancing when she was 3 years old at the Elizabeth Craven School, at the age of 16 she was teaching examination and competition work in all genres of dance.

In 1994 Maria founded her own dance school based in Silkstone, the school grew in its reputation for delivering excellent classes and awards. To compliment the dancing Maria is also a qualified Nursery Nurse and aerobics instructor.
Maria has performed and choreographed numerous operatic shows and charity events. She has lectured in Ireland and demonstrated dance technique for I.D.T.A seminars.

Now an adjudicator and working towards becoming an I.D.T.A examiner, Maria's school and experiences allow her to be fully committed to teaching all aspects of Musical Theatre and Dance to the highest standard.


Miss Rachel:

Rachel began her dance training age 4 with The Pickering Academy, training in many different genres of dance including Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Acrobatics and Theatre Craft. Whilst at the Pickering Academy Rachel competed in regional and national competitions achieving many championship titles and also competing in the prestigious All England Dance Finals and Miss Dance of Great Britain.
Age 16, Rachel furthered her training at the Electric Theatre Studios, Barnsley College, training in Contemporary Dance and Musical Theatre.


After completing her training, Age 18 Rachel began her professional performing career, credits include; Pantomimes, The Royal Variety Performance, Travelsphere Exclusive cruises - cruising the Mediterranean, Scandanavia & Baltic Capitals. Garbos Theatre - Gran Canaria and Carnival Cruise Lines - cruising the USA, Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska. Rachel became a Dance Captain for CCL and remained with the company for many years.


Using her passion, knowledge and experience gained throughout her training and career in the industry,Rachel is now established as a freelance dance teacher and dance fitness instructor.



Miss Fay:

Miss Fay trained at the Maria Penrose School of Theatre Dance from the age of 10 and continued her dance training at Phil Winston’s Theatreworks College from the age of 17.

During her professional dance career Fay has toured the UK with Timeless Theatre Productions as both a dancer and dance captain, performed as a backing dancer for leading tribute acts, performed in fashion shows, danced for corporate events and upto 2012 danced for Carnival Cruise Lines performing in production shows throughout the Caribbean.

In 2008 Fay became a qualified IDTA teacher and gained a diploma in Anatomy and Physiology. She has taught dance classes since the age of 15 and has continued throughout her professional dance career - teaching ballet, tap, irish, commercial jazz and all that’s “in between”!

Most recently Fay has been teaching in Singapore at Rhapsody Dance Centre, where she became Dance Coordinator, overseeing the running of the busy studios. Although she had a fantastic time in Singapore and gained a wealth of experience, she is extremely happy to be back at the Maria Penrose School of Dance.

Miss Fay says ‘it feels just like home!’.
